Matriculation into the programme requires that an applicant meets one of the following criteria:

  1. Three (3) passes at the GCE "A" Level (at least grade C) or the CAPE (at least grade III in all units), one of which must be Biology or a CAPE Associate Degree with specialisation in the Sciences (Natural Sciences);
  2. An Ordinary Diploma in Science (Biology option) with a pass with credit from the Government Technical Institute;
  3. A minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC General Proficiency (at least Grade III) or GCSE "O" level (at least Grade C). These subjects must include, English Language, Mathematics, Biology (or Human and Social Biology) and one (1) other science subject. (Note: Agricultural Science and Food & Nutrition are not accepted as science subjects);
  4. Diploma in Agriculture (Pass with Credit) from the Guyana School of Agriculture;
  5. A Diploma or Associate Degree in Medical Technology
  6. Associate Degree in Pharmacy;
  7. Associate Degree in Biology from a recognized tertiary level institution with a minimum GPA of 2.0;
  8. An Ordinary Diploma in Science (Biology Option) with a pass, in addition to a minimum of three (3) passes at CSEC (or equivalent), must include Mathematics and a Science subject. (Note: Agricultural Science and Food & Nutrition are not accepted as science subjects in FNS);
  9. A Trained Teacher Certificate or Associate Degree in Education with a specialisation in Sciences.
  10. Mature applicant (21 years and over) who has evidence of adequate exposure to Marine Biology and/or Integrated Science together with a pass at the University of Guyana Entrance Examination (UGEE); or
  11. Any qualification considered by the University to be equivalent to any of the above.
