Dr Rupert Roopnarine (January 31, 1943 – February 23, 2026) will be universally celebrated as a man of thought and action, a man of the Renaissance, a man of academia and of the people, who could walk with kings but never lost the common touch. It is in memory of that intellectual quality that the University of Guyana celebrates his life and academic legacy.
Internationally-respected diplomat and Caribbean Statesman, Sir Ronald Sanders, KCMG, KCN, AM, MA, was on Friday, February 13, 2026, installed as the University of Guyana’s 11th Chancellor, at a special ceremony held at the George Walcott Lecture Theatre (GWLT), Turkeyen Campus.

The deadline to submit abstracts for the University of Guyana’s 3rd Diaspora Conference has been extended to Monday, February 16, 2026, following strong interest from participants.
The conference will be held from March 30 – April 1, 2026 at the University of Guyana, Turkeyen Campus, and will explore how technology, identity and global connections shape diaspora experiences in the 21st century.
