The University of Guyana (UG) Cricket team will play in the finals of the Cyril Bonar T20 competition currently being played in Paramaribo, Suriname after they rebounded from an opening-round defeat. 

 UG’s opening campaign saw them going down to Suriname Spartans, who they will play in the finals, by three wickets in a ten-overs a side encounter. 

 

 UG after winning the toss, elected to bat and were dismissed for 65 with Ray Newton top scoring with 15 while Ramjan gabbed 3-5 for Spartans who reached 69 for seven to complete the win.

THE University of Guyana (UG) in partnership with the University of the West Indies (UWI) will roll out Master’s and Associate Degrees in Petroleum Engineering next January, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ivelaw Griffith said.

The vice-chancellor made the disclosure at the Education Lecture Theatre, UG, on Wednesday during a meeting on proposed higher education consortium on engineering and mining.

COURTS Guyana Incorporated on Wednesday awarded full scholarships to four University of Guyana (UG) students through its annual scholarship programme.

The awardees are: 20-year-old Jeremiah Duncan, studying Business Management; 24-year-old Cristal Thomas, studying Civil Engineering; 25-year-old Udellie Haynes, studying Physiotherapy and Asher Marks studying Business Management.

University of Guyana cemented their spot in the semifinal of the GISE/Star Party Rental/ Trophy Stall first-division two-day tournament.

University of Guyana Trojans (UG) cruised into the semifinals after earning a draw against Transport Sports Club at the Everest Cricket Club ground yesterday in the GISE Star Party Rental/ Trophy Stall first-division, two-day tournament.

Transport resumed on 49-1, still trailing by 183 but lost their remaining nine wickets in quick succession to be bundled out for 102 in 49.3 overs.

As part of the University of Guyana’s (UG) effort to provide a platform to spotlight creative arts, two authors launched their books, at the Education Lecture Theatre (ELT) last week Monday.
Red Hibiscus written by Scott Ting-A-Kee, a former student of UG and recipient of the Joyce Adler Prize in 2016, contains prose and poetry while Creole Chips edited by Dr. Juanita Cox is a re-publication and compilation of the writings of the late Edgar Mittelholzer.

The University of Guyana takes this opportunity to respond to the article by Freddie Kissoon, titled “Dr Mark Kirton is livid, confused and wants to know what’s going on”, carried in the Kaieteur News on August 29, 2018.

In the article, the University of Guyana’s right to confer honorary doctorate degrees was questioned. Reference was made to a recent announcement by Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University, Professor Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith, that the institution will be conferring honorary doctorate degrees at the University’s 2018 Convocation.
