Call for Papers - Diaspora Engagement Conference
The University of Guyana, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, officially launched the Institute for Food and Nutrition Security (IFANS) with a symposium yesterday at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
(October 25, 2018) – “If we are to effectively create and disseminate knowledge on nutrition for safe, productive and sustainable societies, we need to develop our youth, bring them into the conversation and mechanics as it is the youth who will live with the consequences of hunger, poverty and climate change if these threats are not adequately addressed and mitigated.”

Twenty-five persons are now equipped with the expertise to cultivate their own crop of white oyster mushrooms following a five-day workshop on the cultivation of edible mushroom and preparation of vermicomposting.
The exercise hosted by the University of Guyana’s Berbice Campus (UGBC), Johns Science Centre concluded on Saturday, October 20.
The local Rastafarian community is calling for compensation for the years they have suffered because of the “draconian laws against the possession and use of marijuana.”
“We feel that some form of reparation is in order…for the social, psychological and economic devastation,” the Rastafarian community suffered, said Ras Khafra Mesesdjehuti at a public forum organized by the University of Guyana at the Umana Yana Wednesday evening.

THE Ministry of Public Infrastructure is currently in talks with the University of Guyana (UG) and the Giftland Mall to construct a walkway connecting the two facilities. This is according to the subject Minister, David Patterson.
Minister Patterson in a comment under a Facebook post he had made, said, “We are in discussions with UG and Giftland Mall to build a walkway connecting UG and the mall…”
The minister continued, saying that the walkway will be accessible, secure and will serve to allow students greater transportation and entertainment options.

THE University of Guyana Press (UGP) recently concluded a logo competition for which students were given the opportunity to showcase their artistic skills, and create a logo for UG Press.

THE University of Guyana Press (UGP) was established a year ago, succeeding the signing of a partnership agreement between the University of Guyana and Ian Randle Publishers, well known as the largest publisher in the English speaking Caribbean.
This agreement allows UGP to function as publisher of content produced by the University of Guyana.
