- ECN 110 - Introductory Microeconomics

The principal aim of this course is to equip each student with a conceptual foundation in micro-economic theory and policy.

- DBF 120 – Accounting for Bankers
Credits : 4
Understand important concepts of accounting so that they can better appraise the applications for credit and other facilities that require analysis of the financial performance of clients’ business. Understand and interpret the financial affairs of businesses and provide advice on issues such as taxation and the preparation of project documents for capital projects. Students are expected to be able to use and interpret at least one computerized accounting package for the project assignment.

This course provides basic statistical concepts, tools and principles to allow students to solve statistical problems and to construct simple statistical models as applied to Social Sciences.

To introduce to the students the banking system in Guyana as a statutory creature by Legislative Acts which establish its legal environment, its scope of operation and sets the framework for its relationship with its owners, its customers, and the general public.

- DBF 210 – International Trade

This course focuses on both the traditional form of International Trade as well as its newer form of multi-national business operations within the framework of globalization. It begins with an introduction to the concepts and terminology of International Trade. Through a clear logical progression the wider issues of International Trade are discussed, including the patterns of trade terms, the debate between free trade and protectionism, and the trend towards globalization.
- DBF 211 - Commercial Banking Operations I

This course is intended to provide a thorough and detailed analysis of the functions of commercial banking operations and practices in Guyana.
- MNG 210 – Computer Studies I
Credits : 4
To acquaint students with a general understanding of computers and their use in the processing of data; To acquaint students with the advantage of dealing with any electronic form of data manipulation.
- ACT 211 – Principles of Business Administration
Credits : 4
Have a knowledge and understanding of the general principles and techniques of management/business administration. Acquire an understanding of the different approaches to management/business administration. Identify the important environmental variables which impact upon managerial decision-making.
Appreciate the different business activities and their relationship to the management function. Develop a planned, organized and systematic approach to business administration. Utilise analytical and decision making skills in solving technical and human resource problems in business administration.

- DBF 220 – Banking Information Systems

To equip participants with thorough knowledge and understanding of the use and application of Information Technology (IT) in financial and related institutions.
To enable students to contribute to the development of the Information Technology in their institutions.
- DBF 221 – International Finance
Credits : 4
This course provides an overview of the field of international finance as it has evolved, and identifies the major trends and themes that continue to differentiate international finance management from its domestic counterpart. In this connection, the role of the multi-national firm in the international flow capital will be stressed. It also recognizes the increasing
importance of the global integration of money and capital markets and the creation of new instruments. In addition, emphasis is placed on the international monetary system and
the role of international financial instruments, such as the World Bank and the IMF. Foreign exchange management, the international debt crisis, the World Trade Organization and their relevance to Guyana are also emphasized.
- DBF 222 – Commercial Banking Operations I
Credits : 4
The objective of this course is to extend the understanding of the theoretical, conceptual and practical basis established in the first semester of Commercial Banking Operations. This will be
done to introduce students to various tools and techniques necessary for managing commercial banks’ operations,
including portfolio, credit and liquidity risk and strategic management. This course views theory and practice as complementing each other, in that we cannot fully understand one without having an appreciation of the other. As such, an application approach through case studies and analysis of local commercial banks plays a critical role in focusing out attention on commercial banking operations.
- MNG 222 – Organizational Theory & Behaviour
Credits : 4
To provide a strong conceptual framework for the study, understanding and applications of organizational behavior.
