The Department of Agriculture is aimed at producing highly trained professionals through teaching, research and service to cater for the development of agriculture to meet national and regional needs.

The agricultural programme has close links with both local and international agencies such as the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI), Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI), Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO), Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB), other Rice Entities, Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA), and St. Stanislaus Farm. The Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Fisheries, Crops and Livestock also have close ties with the Faculty.
