Address by His Excellency Donald Ramotar President of the Republic of Guyana to the 46th Convocation of the University of Guyana
November 10, 2012.
I feel very privileged to be asked to deliver this Convocation Address. But I also feel a sense of gratification because it affords me the opportunity to return to my alma mater.
I still recall fondly my days here. I had many good days on campus during which I built enduring friends and met many wonderful human beings. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a student.
I am sure you the graduands feel the same way. I share
Four applicants, including three Guyanese from the Diaspora, and a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago have been shortlisted to be interviewed for the vacant post of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Guyana.

Monday – Friday: 08:30 – 18:00 h
Saturday: 08:30 – 17:00 h
The University of Guyana has taken a decision to postpone the commencement of classes for the 2012-2013 academic year.
The University was scheduled to commence its teaching activities on Monday, August 27, 2012. However, after due consideration of the delays which were occasioned by the industrial action during the 2011-2012 academic year, the consequential effects and other factors including the recent release of results by CXC, it was decided to postpone the commencement of the 2012-2013 classes from August 27, 2012, to September 10, 2012.
New and continuing students are asked to note that the commencement date for semester 1 has been rescheduled to September 10, 2012.
The Ceremonial Opening will now take place on Friday, September 7, 2012.
The Administration regrets any inconvenience caused.
Final Opportunity to apply for the 2012/2013 Academic Year
Online applications will be reopened for five days with effect from midnight, Friday, August 17 to midnight, Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
The list of available programmes and the general and specific entry requirements for the University of Guyana will be made available on the University’s website @ www.uog.edu.gy
The University Administration, in response to questions raised by a few media houses about recent calls by the University of Guyana Workers Union and Senior Staff Association,for the resignation of Chancellor Professor Compton Bourne, advises that it does not support the call for his resignation.
